I knew getting outside and observing nature would be exciting and worthwhile for the family, but I did not expect to notice so many small and beautiful details about the tiniest of plants, bugs, animals, etc. It was a fun and memorable weekend!

This was my first time on the Bioblitz backyard event, and it was a wonderful experience. A perfect motivation to keep myself exploring and acknowledging all the nature around me. I love the idea that, with small actions, like clicking pics around your yard or recording nature sounds from your hikes, you can make big contributions to science and the environment. I shared the experience with a few friends and encouraged them to take part in the environmental community in any way that would better suit them. Definitely an experience that I would love to repeat and recommend.

My partner and I had a ton of fun running around our acreage and taking pictures of the plants we have! We have a lot more around us than we ever really realized. It was also really cool to learn so much about them, where they grow, if they are native species, medical or scientific uses. It was really fascinating!

Bioblitzes are a great reason to spend more time outdoors, even just in your own backyard. With iNaturalist being a citizen science platform, you’re not just becoming more aware of wildlife, plants and fungi around you, but you’re also helping countless research projects that use the data you collect.
