Participate anywhere (no backyard required!)

From July 27 to August 3, venture out into nature and start photographing the species you see. It could be the beetles on your balcony, the buttercups in the park down the street, the beaver you encounter on your canoe trip. As long as it’s in Canada, every contribution counts. Audio recordings are also welcome!

Share your discoveries

Upload your photos and audio clips to create a snapshot of nature across Canada. Every observation you share adds to our collective understanding of biodiversity and helps inform future conservation efforts.

With the NCC Big Backyard BioBlitz, I set out to support community science and. It was an opportunity for me to slowdown and examine the insects inhabiting my backyard garden, which has mostly naturalized plantings. I feel like I discovered a whole ecosystem in the process, as I documented species that I was encountering for the first time. I also enjoyed learning from other community members’ observations on NCC social media. I hope to participate in the Big Backyard Bioblitz to continue documenting biodiversity in urban areas.
